Celebrating our 2025 Azalea Award Nomination for Community Leadership

We are thrilled to share that Amy Leo, Local Maternity Thread’s founder, has been nominated for a 2025 Azalea Award, one of Takoma Park’s most beloved honors recognizing individuals who embody community spirit, service, and innovation.

Presented annually by the Takoma Foundation, the Azalea Awards shine a spotlight on local changemakers—neighbors, educators, entrepreneurs, and advocates—whose work strengthens the social fabric of our community. These “people’s choice” awards invite the community to celebrate individuals across multiple categories who are helping to shape a more vibrant, inclusive Takoma Park.

The Takoma Foundation is a volunteer-run nonprofit that fuels grassroots initiatives aimed at equity, inclusion, and civic engagement. Through community-driven grantmaking and events like the Azalea Awards, the Foundation supports bold, local solutions that reflect the diversity and values of Takoma Park.

Amy Leo’s nomination is a testament to her commitment to reducing textile waste and building community support for and among expecting families. But just as importantly, this honor reflects a community-wide effort—the collective ingenuity, generosity, energy, and care that have made Local Maternity Thread possible. This Azalea Award nomination is about the community-powered vision that fuels Local Maternity Thread and uplifts families across the DC area.
