Fall Highlights & Exciting Updates from Local Maternity Thread

Dear Community,

We've been busy! Please enjoy reading all about it in our first monthly (ish?) newsletter:Fall Events

This fall, we tabled at four community events — two Peace Park Sundays, Mamatoto Village’s Fill-A-Bag event, and the Takoma Park Street Festival.

At the Street Festival, we set a $500 fundraising goal and — thanks to your generosity — we met and exceeded it!

Your donations will help us open more maternity clothing closets and launch additional prenatal support groups. Thank you!!

We’re thrilled to share that Local Maternity Thread is now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization!

Our First Prenatal Support Group Has Begun!

In September, we launched our pilot prenatal support group, which will meet monthly through January. Twelve families are participating — and we’re already seeing new friendships bloom!

We hope to offer additional prenatal support groups in Takoma Park and other neighborhoods in early 2026. If you’d like to join or help launch a prenatal group in your community, please let us know!

Help Needed

We are looking for volunteers to help give away maternity and nursing clothing at two upcoming community events. The event locations are not shared publicly for participants’ safety, but will be shared with volunteers who sign up. Both locations are just outside of Takoma Park.

Saturday, October 25th 9:30am-12:30pm
Monday, November 3rd, 3:30-6:30pm

Volunteers will help set up a table and clothing rack with maternity and nursing clothing in a variety of sizes and then connect with people as they browse. It's a lot of fun! If you can lend a hand for an hour or two during one of these events, please reply to this email. Thank you!
